Government departments have a responsibility to make sure their work with the public is accessible and easy to use.
Unfortunately people with an intellectual disability experience many barriers when engaging with the government. Examples include use of technical words, reliance on text based information, lack of appropriate supports and setting unrealistic timeframes.
The Towards Inclusive Practice project was established to provide advice to government departments, and other large organisations, on how to be more inclusive of people with an intellectual disability.
Together we have produced a range of helpful resources, co-designed with a network of people with an intellectual disability across Australia. They can be read individually or as a whole to help you think about and improve your own inclusive practice.
Inclusive practice is an ongoing process. We hope these resources will help you on your own journey towards including everyone in your work.
