Policy Reference Group (PRG)

Inclusion Australia’s Policy Reference Group (PRG) is made up of experienced advocates with an intellectual disability from across Australia.

The PRG members come from diverse backgrounds, including First Nations people, people from multicultural communities, and LGBTIQA+ people. They bring combined decades of experience in advocacy and direct experience of many government services and reform processes.

What we do

The PRG focuses on systemic advocacy, which means working together to change policies, laws, and whole systems for the better. The PRG helps Inclusion Australia make decisions about policy advocacy.

The Policy Reference Group:

  • shares their views on important issues
  • gives advice on how to speak up for changes to laws and rules that affect their lives
  • helps Inclusion Australia understand what people with an intellectual disability want and need
  • informs our submissions and advice to government.

We use the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) to guide the PRG. This helps us look at current problems, think about different solutions, and consider what might work best for people with an intellectual disability.

The group is chaired by Inclusion Australia Policy Officers and the Policy and Advocacy Manager. There are 12 PRG members. PRG members are nominated through Inclusion Australia’s member organisations in each state and territory.

Submissions and consultations

The PRG takes part in consultations for different projects. These are the submissions that the PRG have helped inform:
