A New Act to Replace the Disability Services Act 1986: joint submission from Disability Representative Organisations

The Australian Government plans to repeal and replace the Disability Services Act (1986).  A consultation paper about what might replace the Act was released in November 2022.

This is a significant opportunity to shape the vision and direction for the rights of people with disability in Australia for years to come.

Repealing the Disability Services Act also provides the opportunity to update the legislative framework. We believe this should make sure people with disability are living their lives as equal citizens, engaging in education, employment, social, political, spiritual and cultural pursuits alongside their peers.

Inclusion Australia worked alongside our fellow national Disability Representative Organisations (DROs) and others to develop a joint submission to the government about our vision for the future of the Act.
