Letter of support for the National Centre for Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health response to the Safety Standards review

The National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards (the Safety Standards) say what hospitals and health services must do to keep people safe and give good quality care.

The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Healthcare is reviewing the Safety Standards. They asked the community for feedback about how to make the Safety Standards better.

We want to make sure the Safety Standards include a strong focus on people with an intellectual disability, who often experience poorer health and face barriers to getting the healthcare they need.

We made a submission supporting the National Centre for Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health (the Centre) in its response to the Safety Standards.

We believe the recommendations made by the Centre would help create safer and more inclusive health care for people with an intellectual disability and their families.
